Homosexuals

This one is, of course, multifaceted:
  • Is homosexuality "right"?: Yes, as much as having a long nose is right. But the same as having a long nose doesn't give anyone special privileges, neither should homosexuality. But neither should there be any discrepancy in their rights and privileges. I believe humans have progressed beyond their original design in terms of love, committment, and understanding. Although the traditional, mammalian way of love might be female+male, we as humans have the ability to transcend our animal ways. I believe that this is simply a natural progression thereof. I could see at some point in the future such things as multiple people in a committed relationship, etc. The difficulties are much more extensive, but as we grow and change, it's not an impossibility.

  • Gay Marriage: Depending on your beliefs, marriage is either an institute of the state or of your religion. I personally believe that legal marriage (state-instituted) should be allowed. There's no reason not to, and to do otherwise is to inject some religion into the state. Religions can allow or disallow the marriages as they please, much like they allow or disallow any other action. Disallowing state-based marriages due to religious beliefs about the right or wrongness of the idea is injecting religion into politics where it does NOT belong.

  • Gays in the Military: Get over your homophobia. It shouldn't even be an issue. I have brown hair and that has nothing to do with my ability or lack thereof to serve in the armed forces. Same deal with your sexual orientation. However, if you choose to make your sexuality an issue, the armed forces has a right to enact correction on you just as any other business would. I am not allowed to flaunt or exploit my brown hair at my business, neither should anyone be allowed to throw his or her sexuality around inappropriately.
