This is me, and this is my blog. My name is Nathan Pralle and I’m a computer programmer from Sheffield, Iowa, USA, which translates to the middle of nowhere; however, the town is very nice and homey. I live in a 1905 bungalow with my wife Yolanda, my son Keston, and my various pets, including a cat named Leo. I am an avid computer programmer, system administrator, and collector of vintage computer parts and machines (over 130 now grace my collection).
I dabble at lot in software and hardware and am known to pull out the soldering iron during the most formal of occasions. I am also fond of reading and thinking a lot, and I have great interests in the fields of philosophy and artificial intelligence and most enjoy conglomerations of the two dealing with the problem of consciousness in machines and personal identity issues.
My musical talents extend to singing baritone in a barbershop chorus and playing tuba in various area bands. I also have been known to sing in the shower, the car, and to my wife in situations that make her crawl into her shell.
Mostly, I’m using this blog as a way to provide my own commentary on life, events, and ideas, with the occasional emotional rant or plea thrown in there. I’m not attempting to maintain a pristine face and if you are one of my relatives, you might be shocked by what you find here — I make no warranties or claims to fame.
Unfortunately, certain items will never appear here due to their content: my day job has to stay out of conversation for privacy and ethical reasons, discussions of the oddities of my family will usually stay out of here, and other issues in which I deem too risky to post and be associated with the guilty parties. Such is life and the nature of the public Internet.
I do, however, hope you find something of value here, or at least amusement. That is, in part, why I write, besides being a cathartic act for myself.
I wish you all the best, always. Good luck finding your life’s path; it’s a hell of a journey.
Nathan
