Hobbies

Things I do in my "spare" time to keep me sane.

The River City Barbershop Chorus - I discovered the great and wonderful hobby of barbershop singing in the spring of 2001 and never looked back. I'm now the VP of Music and Performance for this wonderful group of guys that meet every Monday evening to harmonize, perform, and hang out. Definately one of my main stress-relievers.

Hurley's Goat Products - I am the webmaster for this site which is for the Hurley family here in Sheffield, IA. They make hand made soap right in their own kitchen from the milk of their Nubian goat herd. They're good friends of me and my wife and their soap kicks very much ass.

Franklin County IA Freecycle - I'm the owner and founder of the Franklin County, IA, Freecycle™ group. The Freecycle™ movement started in Tucson, AZ, in 2003 and has since expanded nationwide as a way of freely exchanging items between generous, environmentally-conscious people. My county didn't have one so I started this one. Join the Freecycle in your county today! More information and locations of your local Freecycle groups available here.

North Iowa Concert Band - Made up of half students, half community members, the NICB is my Tuesday night committment during the school year. It allows me to play good band music at a collegiate level and yet only spend one night a week at it. I have been playing tuba with this band.

Hampton-Dumont Class of 1996 Website - A listing of people from the class of 1996 at Hampton-Dumont High School in Hampton, IA.

- I send and receive postcards from people all over the world! Click to read more.

Hampton Municipal Band - The Hampton Municipal Band has been around for a long time and I was fortunate to join in 1994, playing baritone. I now play tuba for them and have a good time putting on concerts in the first month and a half of each summer.

The Forever Beyond - My online talker (chat system) since January 18th, 1997. The Forever Beyond started out as a fun project and has become something that is just always there. I have met tons of interesting people on it, most whom I name friends.

Candyland - I'm the coder and webmaster for this talker, which is my wife's. She acquired ownership of it in Feb 2005 and runs it.

The Computer Shelter - In conjunction with this website, I am a vintage computer collector and have collected over 130 different computers. I spend a lot of time going through them, getting them to run, experimenting with them, hunting for new parts, etc. It's enjoyable and I've learned a lot about technoloy's upbringing.

Pencil Collecting - This is one hobby which I don't spend much time doing, but I figure will be around when I get bored and want to pick it up again. I just ask people to bring me pencils from all the places they visit. It makes for cheap souveniers for myself and an easy way to remember places and events.

Gourmet Cooking - I love cooking in the gourmet style and try to give myself challenges to rise to, to exercise those abilities. One of these days I'll get the chance to spend more time than I do working with this.

Gardening - Maybe not my biggest hobby, but I enjoy having a nice garden and flowers. They're nothing spectacular, but they are pretty and give me food, which I appreciate.
